Small dogs live a long time, and in their later years they often need help getting through the night. A pee pad by the patio door or in the laundry room makes sense, but a pad slides, and a dog with stiff hips does not always hit the middle. What leaks off the edge goes straight into the carpet next to it.
The carpet under and around those pads tends to show a faint ring and a smell that gets stronger when the air conditioning cycles off. Since the pad sits in the same place for months, that one patch takes a lot of repeat exposure.

Urine dries into crystals that sit in the backing and pad, and those crystals give off odor every time humidity rises. Shampoo or a spray from the store will lift the yellow from the top, but it never reaches them.
Our approach is to apply Un-Duz-It, an enzyme made to break those crystals down, and let it work before cleaning. After the dwell time, we rinse the area with hot water extraction so the loosened material leaves the carpet.
