Fur doesn't weave into leather the way it does into fabric, and most muddy paws wipe off. That's why so many dog owners go leather. But dogs still leave their mark.
Grime like this sits on top of the finish at first, then slowly works into the grain if it's left long enough.
We start by vacuuming fur out of every seam and pulling loose cushions so nothing gets ground in. Then we try our product on a hidden spot to see how the leather responds.
Protected, pigmented leather is the most dog-friendly type, with a color coat that shields the hide. It cleans up well with a careful scrub of the oily areas. Aniline and semi-aniline are more porous and show every scratch, so they get a milder product and less agitation. Nubuck and suede are napped, so they're cleaned with very little moisture and brushed up afterward instead of coated.
If you add conditioning, it goes on once smooth leather is clean. That puts moisture back in and leaves a little more flexibility in the surface, which helps it handle the next round of paws.
These are online cleaning prices. Conditioning is a separate, optional add-on per piece, and we highly recommend it in Arizona heat.
Common Gilbert setups:
Dog oil, drool and dried slobber lift off well, and the darkened patch where your dog sleeps generally gets much lighter. Fur and dander in the seams come out with vacuuming and cleaning.
Claw marks are the honest exception. Light scuffs on the top coat can blend in some after conditioning, but a scratch that went into the hide stays. The same goes for chewed corners, tears, cracks, peeling and spots where color has worn away. We don't do leather repair or re-dyeing. If urine got into a cushion, that's a separate pet treatment, and we'll talk it through with you first.
