Gilbert's mix of newer master-planned communities and older homes near Historic Downtown means the rugs we clean here range from big-box synthetics to inherited wool.
Pfaff Cleaning Co. is locally owned, with the owners overseeing every job. See our full process and service area on the main area rug cleaning page.

Material comes first. The wrong solution on wool causes browning, dye bleed, or fiber damage that cleaning cannot undo, so we identify what you own before anything touches it.
Some rugs are better handled off-site, and when that is the case we say so. That is specialist work, and we will point you to someone who does it.
Price your rugs in about a minute with the instant quote tool. A $150 minimum applies per visit, once for the whole visit rather than per service.

We say within 24 hours, and most of the time it is dry long before that. The 24 hours is on purpose, because different fibers and backings release moisture at different rates and we would rather beat the number than miss it. Airflow is what moves it: open a window, run the ceiling fan, set the HVAC fan to ON instead of AUTO. Ask and we will set an air mover on it before we go.
Wool, synthetic, cotton, and blends, plus Persian and Oriental rugs, shag, plush, flatweave, sisal and jute, silk blends, hide rugs, and machine-made area rugs. Wool and hand-knotted rugs get different chemistry and gentler agitation than a synthetic, which is why they are priced differently. Oriental and Persian rugs get identified before anything touches them, because dye stability and foundation fibers decide the method, not the price tag.
We clean rugs in place, right where they lie, and you do not need to move anything. Expensive wool is normal work for us, hand-knotted, oriental, Persian, wool and silk blends. What we turn down is the truly high-value stuff and fragile antiques that need a wash pit and a controlled dry. We say no on those and tell you who does them properly, because we are not willing to carry that risk in your living room.
When we are not sure how a rug's dyes will behave, we test in an inconspicuous spot first. Wool, silk blends, and hand-dyed rugs can run, and finding that out mid-clean is how a rug gets ruined.
Then dry soil removal. Grit and sand come out dry, because the moment they get wet they turn to mud and grind against the fiber. Skipping this step is why some rugs come back looking flat.
Then dry soil comes out before any moisture goes in, because wetting grit turns it into mud. We vacuum first on most jobs, and skip it when the rug is genuinely light on soil rather than charging you for motion.
Most rugs come back looking like the rug somebody paid for. That is the normal outcome. We handle wool, silk blends, and antiques regularly.
We do not call a stain permanent until we have actually worked it, and on a rug we are not sure of, that means testing for dye bleed first. Some things are damage instead of soil, dye loss, sun fading, browning from a previous over-wetting, or urine that already reached the foundation. We tell you which is which before we start.
We carry commercial air movers, Dri-Pod 360s and a low-profile Syclone, and if you want one running before we go, ask and we will set it up. It jump starts the drying rather than leaving the room to do it on its own.
The rest is airflow. Open a window, run the ceiling fan, kick the HVAC fan on, and the room dries a lot faster than a closed-up room with nothing moving. We will tell you what to expect for your place before we leave.
Synthetic, wool, cotton, and natural fiber rugs, cleaned in your home where that is the right method and identified for off-site handling where it is not.
Synthetics are dimensionally stable and colorfast in most cases, and they tolerate in-home cleaning well. Wool is absorbent, can shrink, and reacts to high pH cleaners in ways synthetics do not. Viscose, sometimes sold as art silk or bamboo silk, loses strength when wet and distorts, and we will not clean it in the home.
Cotton foundations on hand-knotted rugs are prone to browning and dye migration when moisture is not controlled tightly, which is one of the main reasons some rugs are better washed off-site.
We use Decon 30, a botanical, EPA-registered disinfectant, applied with a fogger rather than a pump sprayer. It lands as a fine, high-power mist across the rug and settles through the room, so the fibers and the air get treated at once and nothing gets soaked. A soaked rug is a bigger problem than a dirty one, which is exactly why we mist instead.
A lot of people have a rug in the garage or a closet because something happened to it and they did not know what to do next. A pet used it, a party ended badly, it got wet and started to smell. Then it sat.
Bring it out. Rolled-up rugs are a normal call for us, and sitting does not automatically mean ruined. We tell you honestly whether it can come back before you pay for anything.
Urine soaks through the rug, into the foundation, and often into whatever is underneath it. Surface cleaning addresses the top and leaves the rest, which is why the odor comes back. Real treatment means full saturation, flushing, and rinsing, which cannot happen responsibly on your floor. Mention it upfront and we will recommend the right approach rather than doing work that will not hold.
A cheap rug clean costs less right up until it costs you the rug. A wool rug is worth several times what any cleaning costs, and the ways it gets ruined are permanent: browning, dye bleeding into the fringe, shrinkage, a foundation that stayed wet and soured. None of that comes back.
Rugs are not carpet, and they need their own process. We take our time with every one, because a carpet wand on a wool rug works right up until the day it does not.
What we do first is identify the fiber, and test the dyes on anything we are not sure of, before anything wet touches it. Then controlled moisture instead of soaking, and proper drying instead of damp under the furniture. Synthetic is $1.70 a square foot online and wool is $2.98, and either way you get told honestly if yours should go off-site to a specialist instead.
A large machine-made synthetic from a furniture store and a hand-knotted wool rug are different products that need different handling, and treating them the same is how rugs get damaged. Wool holds water, can shrink, and does not tolerate high pH cleaners the way a synthetic will.
Gilbert's higher-than-average pet ownership adds the other factor, since urine in a rug soaks through to the foundation and often into whatever is underneath it.
We check fiber content, dye stability, and construction before anything touches the rug. If what you have is viscose, sometimes sold as art silk or bamboo silk, we will not clean it in the home, and we will explain why rather than attempting it.
We know your rug's fiber before a drop of water touches it.

Deodorizer is for smell: it knocks out odor and leaves a clean floral scent. Sanitizing is for the surface: Decon 30, a hospital-grade botanical disinfectant, misted over it. A lot of people add both, since one treats the surface and the other leaves it smelling fresh.
Yes, throughout Gilbert and the surrounding Valley.
Often yes, depending on fiber, construction, and condition. We look at it and tell you honestly whether in-home cleaning gives a good result.
Yes, with products matched to natural fiber and a colorfastness test on any rug we are not sure of.
Not in the home. The fiber loses strength when wet and the risk of distortion and discoloration is high. We identify it and explain the options.
Surface treatment addresses the top layer. Urine that soaked into the foundation needs full saturation and flushing, and that is work we do.
In-home cleaning with controlled moisture usually dries within a day in Arizona conditions.
Fringe is usually the foundation of the rug rather than attached decoration, so it needs careful handling. Worth pointing out when you request a quote.
