Glass and stone mosaic tile with white grout lines

Floor repairs guaranteed for a full year.

Grout Repair Cost

Every repair is different, so we give ranges and confirm the number from photos or on site.

Floor, a few cracked spots$150 to $450
Backsplash, a few cracked spots$150 to $450
Floor, multiple areas throughout the home$650 to $950
Baseboard and corner lines$300 to $650
Shower, a couple of spots$200 to $400
Shower, multiple areas, standard size$550 to $750

What moves the price: how much grout has failed, whether it is already loose and missing or cracked but still in the joint, joint width, tile size and layout, how much baseboard needs protecting, whether you have leftover grout from the install or we order it, and whether you add color sealing.

Cracked grout that is still in place has to be cut out with a grout saw before new grout can go in, which takes longer than refilling joints where it has already fallen out. Baseboard and corner lines cost more because of the setup it takes to keep grout off your baseboards.

Repairs are not discounted online. The optional clean and color seal afterward is priced at our normal tile rates. A $150 minimum applies per visit in our core cities, or $300 if the visit includes tile cleaning, once for the whole visit rather than per service.

Shower floor grout before and after: patched failed lines, then cleaned and color sealed to one uniform color

Why Grout Fails

Almost every repair we see comes down to one of three things.

It was mixed wrong from the start

When the original installer gets the water ratio wrong, the grout never reaches full strength. It dusts, crumbles, and washes out of the joints a little more with every mop. This is the one that looks like a disaster, and it is not your fault.

The house moved, a tiny bit, over years

Homes settle. Not enough to notice, but enough to crack grout where the floor meets something rigid. That is why it shows up along baseboards and in corners first. It is common, and it is usually a few lines rather than the whole floor.

The shower of death

Showers take water, soap, and calcium every day. Over time that breaks grout down until it cracks, grows mold in the gaps, and eventually comes loose. Once water gets behind failed grout, it only gets worse.

When the water is behind the tile, it is a different story

Sometimes the grout is not the real problem. If water is trapped behind the tile or under the shower pan, from failed waterproofing or clogged weep holes, the moisture keeps pushing out through the grout because it is the most porous path. You can repair that grout perfectly and it will fail again, because the source is behind the tile.

Signs to watch for: white chalky powder on the grout, grout that stays dark for hours after a shower, loose or hollow-sounding tiles, and a musty smell that keeps coming back. If we see those, we tell you before we touch anything, because that shower needs waterproofing or pan work from a contractor, not a grout repair.

When It Is a Grout Problem, and When It Is Not

We repair grout when the tile underneath is solid. Cracked lines, missing sections, crumbling joints, and blown-out corners are all fixable when the tile itself is still bonded down. That is most of what we see and it comes back looking right.

Hollow-sounding tile is a different problem. Tap across a floor and you can hear it. A solid tile gives a tight sound, a tile that has lost bond with the substrate sounds hollow underneath. When that tile moves, the grout around it cracks again, and regrouting it just buys you a few months before you are looking at the same line.

We tap the area before we quote. If it is hollow, we tell you, because taking your money to fill a joint that is going to crack again is not repair work, it is a delay. That is a tile setting job and we will point you to someone who does it.

How a Repair Works

Some people call this grout replacement. We cut out the grout that failed and replace it, not the whole floor or the whole shower.

  1. The day before, for showers. Skip showering in that shower the day before, so the grout joints are dry when we arrive.
  2. Assess. We look at what failed and why, and tell you honestly whether it is a repair or something bigger.
  3. Repair. Loose grout comes out, cracked grout gets cut out with a grout saw, and new grout goes in. We use Custom Building Products and Mapei grout, matched as closely as grout allows.
  4. Cure. About 5 days. Stay off repaired floor areas for about a day, and do not use a repaired shower.
  5. Clean and color seal, optional but recommended. We come back once it cures, clean everything, and color seal so old and new grout finally match.
  6. Showers wait 7 more days after color sealing before you use them.

We will be straight with you: a lot of shower repairs turn out great when we repair one day, then clean and color seal once it cures. That second visit is what makes it look new.

Color Sealing: 40+ Colors, or Your Own

New grout never quite matches ten-year-old grout. Color sealing fixes that. It coats every grout line in one even color, so nobody can tell where the repair was. Choose from over 40 colors, or ask for a custom color. We have made pink.

It also protects the grout going forward, which matters most in showers.

Our Guarantee, and Why Showers Do Not Get One

Floor repairs are guaranteed for one year. If grout we repaired cracks or comes loose under normal use, we come back and fix it free. It does not cover new cracks from the house settling somewhere else, water damage, structural movement, or repairs made with customer-supplied grout, since we cannot vouch for how that grout was stored or mixed.

Showers are not guaranteed, and that includes repairs, cleaning, and color sealing. Some hold up for years and some fail quickly. A short life does not mean the work was done wrong. It means something out of our control is working on it: water, soap, and calcium every day, how well the bathroom vents, the cleaners used, and moisture we cannot see behind the tile. We would rather be honest about that than promise something a shower can undo. You can help it last: run the exhaust fan during your shower and for a while after, and squeegee the walls when you can. Less standing moisture means longer-lasting grout.

What We Do Not Do

We repair grout in showers, on floors, and on backsplashes, and we do it well. We do not do full regrouts, tile replacement or tile repair, or caulking. If your job is bigger than a grout repair, we will tell you upfront.

Grout still sound but just dirty? That is tile and grout cleaning, and it costs less.

Locally owned, serving Chandler, Gilbert, Scottsdale, Mesa, Queen Creek, Tempe, Ahwatukee, Sun Lakes, and Paradise Valley.

Shower Tile and Grout Restoration

Shower grout restoration and shower tile restoration are the two things people search when a shower looks past cleaning. Cracked and missing grout, dark seams in the corners, and grout that crumbles when you touch it.

We repair the grout that has failed and reseal it. What we do not do is regrout an entire shower from scratch, and we will say so on the phone rather than after we are standing in your bathroom.

Grout Repair FAQs

Please reach us at (480) 389-8415 if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Are you a licensed contractor?

No. We stick to grout repairs in showers, on floors, and on backsplashes, the kind of targeted fix that does not need one, and we tell you upfront if a job is bigger than that.

Do you do full regrouts?

No. We repair the grout that has failed, in showers and on floors. If the whole house needs regrouting, we will tell you so you can hire the right company.

How long before I can use my shower?

Repaired grout needs about 5 days to cure. If you add a clean and color seal, we come back after the cure, and then the shower needs 7 more days before you use it. Plan on roughly 12 days total with color sealing.

How long before I can walk on a repaired floor?

Try to stay off the repaired areas for about a day. The grout keeps curing for about 5 days before color sealing.

Will the new grout match the old grout?

We use Custom Building Products and Mapei grout and match as closely as grout allows, but new grout and old grout rarely look identical. A clean and color seal after it cures is what guarantees one even color across the whole floor or shower.

What colors can you color seal in?

Over 40 standard colors, and custom colors made on request. Yes, including pink.

Do you guarantee the repair?

Floor repairs come with a one-year guarantee: if grout we repaired cracks or comes loose under normal use, we fix it free. This does not cover new cracks from the house settling elsewhere, water damage, structural movement, or repairs made with customer-supplied grout. Showers are not guaranteed, whether it is a repair, cleaning, or color seal. Some hold up for years and some fail quickly, and a short life does not mean the work was done wrong. Water, soap, calcium, ventilation, and moisture behind the tile are out of our control.

Do you caulk or replace tile?

No. We repair grout only. Caulking, and replacing or repairing cracked tile, are separate jobs we do not take on.

Why does my shower grout keep failing?

Usually water, soap, and calcium wearing it down. But if it keeps failing even after repairs, water may be trapped behind the tile or under the pan and pushing out through the grout. Watch for white chalky powder, grout that stays dark for hours, loose tiles, or a musty smell. That needs waterproofing or pan work from a contractor, and we will tell you if we see the signs.

Can I use my own leftover grout?

You can, and it may lower the price a little. We recommend fresh grout, though. Bagged grout has a shelf life of about a year, repairs made with customer-supplied grout are not covered by the floor guarantee, and a clean and color seal afterward puts everything in one color anyway.

Do I need to do anything before a shower repair?

Skip showering in that shower the day before, so the grout joints are dry when we get there.

How much does grout repair cost?

Floor spot repairs run $150 to $450, multiple floor areas throughout the home $650 to $950, baseboard and corner lines $300 to $650, a couple of shower spots $200 to $400, and multiple areas in a standard shower $550 to $750. Repairs are not discounted online. Color sealing is priced at our normal tile rates.

Do you clean or restore shower glass?

Not at this time. We clean and repair the tile, stone, and grout around it. For hard water on shower glass, we suggest Bio-Clean Hard Water Stain Remover. It is non-acidic, so it will not etch the stone and grout around your glass the way most acid-based removers can. Test a small corner first, especially if your glass has a protective coating.
