Dryer Says "Check Vent" or "Flow Sense"? It Is Almost Always the Vent

Caked lint behind a dryer back panel, the kind of clog that sets off a check vent warning

Newer dryers watch their own airflow. When the air cannot get out fast enough, they say so: Flow Sense on LG, a Check Vent light on Whirlpool and Maytag, and similar warnings on most other brands.

In our experience, about 95% of the time the cause is one of two things: a clogged vent line, or a lint trap housing packed solid with the lint that slips past the screen. Newer machines are the quickest to complain.

Other Signs It Is the Vent

  • Loads take two cycles to dry
  • The laundry room gets hot while it runs
  • The outside flap barely opens with the dryer on
  • The top of the dryer is hot to the touch

What We Do About It

We brush the line from the dryer to the exterior, from both ends on long runs, and open the lint trap housing on dryers that allow it. If the problem is a crushed line inside the wall or a broken exit, that is a repair, and we tell you rather than charge you for a cleaning that will not fix it.

What It Costs

$129 to clean the line, $228 with the lint trap housing or a new hose, $327 for the full service. Stacked or tight-closet setups add $60. No visit minimum on a basic dryer vent cleaning.
