Most people pick a duct company by its name and its trucks, pay a few hundred dollars, and never look inside the ducts afterward. That money should buy you clean ducts, not dust-lined ones with a vacuum run past them.
What a Thorough Cleaning Includes
- Every supply line and every return agitated end to end, so the dust stuck to the duct walls breaks loose
- That debris pulled all the way out, not pushed further down the line
- The returns cleaned, not just the supply vents
- Registers and covers cleaned before they go back on

How to Check Any Duct Cleaning
- Pull a register and shine a flashlight down the run. Clean duct walls look clean. Gray fuzz still lining them means the line was vacuumed, not agitated.
- Look behind the return grille, where the most dust collects.
- Check the first bend in a flex line. If dust is sitting in the bend, the brush never got there.

Four Questions to Ask Before You Book
- Do you agitate every line, or just vacuum?
- Are the returns included?
- Is it priced per vent, or one number for the house?
- What is not included in that price?
