The difference between a cleaning and a good cleaning is time. We take ours.
Price it yourselfGlendale stone comes in two flavors. Older homes often have a slate entry or a flagstone patio laid decades ago, and the larger Arrowhead homes lean on travertine for entries, showers, and the pool deck. Hard water and West Valley dust dull all of it, and we bring it back with stone-safe products only.
Pfaff Cleaning Co. is locally owned. The main natural stone cleaning page covers the full process and the rest of our cities.

Grout repair is priced by area and not discounted online. Stone showers and backsplashes are priced from a photo.
Have saltillo? Plenty of older Glendale homes do. It is fired clay rather than stone, so it is priced on our tile and grout page, even though it gets similar care.
Mosaic and small-format stone, along with inlays, borders, and dividers, take more hand time and are priced from a photo. Text one over and we will reply with a price.

Faded stone, and especially slate or travertine that went flat years ago, usually comes back further under a color enhancing sealer. It deepens the color already in the stone instead of adding a new one, and on an old slate entry the change is dramatic.
We seal a small test spot with each so you can compare them side by side in your own light. A lot of people arrive set on clear and change their minds standing over the samples, and just as many stay with clear. Either way, the choice gets made looking at your stone, not a description of it. Both protect; the enhancer also brings the color forward.
We clean and seal marble, but we do not refinish it. Bringing back the shine on dull or etched marble means grinding with diamond abrasives, which is a separate trade with separate machines.
We also do not replace, repair, or remove stone or tile. If a piece is cracked or loose, you hear about it before we begin, because that belongs to a stone or tile contractor.
Soil sits on the surface, comes off, and the floor looks better when it is wet. An etch mark is a dull patch where something acidic touched the stone, and it stays dull while the rest shines. A floor that is dull everywhere usually has a worn finish rather than a dirt problem. Cleaning and sealing fixes the first and guards against the next, but it does not undo an etch or a worn finish. We will tell you which you have before you spend anything.
Most damage to stone happens while someone is trying to remove mineral deposits. A razor blade takes bonded calcium off quickly and scratches the stone in the process. An acidic remover lifts the deposit and etches travertine, marble, and limestone at the same time. We use products matched to the stone with proper dwell time, remove what can come off safely, and tell you when the rest has bonded in rather than trade your stone for a quicker result.
Travertine, marble, and limestone are made of calcium. The same acidic cleaner that is harmless on porcelain eats into them and leaves a dull spot where stone is missing, not dirt. It cannot be cleaned out. A lot of ruined stone floors come from people who were not careless at all; they just used a tile product on something that looked like tile.
The price covers knowing the stone and the chemistry it needs: pH-neutral products, controlled dwell, and a sealer chosen for that stone, so the finish is still there when we leave.

Travertine cleaning, marble and limestone care, slate and flagstone, and hard water stain removal on stone showers and floors. Stone is porous, so a seal is what keeps Glendale's hard water and everyday spills from soaking in. We always clean first, because sealing over soil locks the soil in.
Travertine, marble, limestone, slate, and flagstone, inside and outside, including travertine pool decks and cool deck, deep cleaned and sealed so the color comes back and stays protected.
Sun, hard water, and foot traffic wear at the surface until travertine looks chalky, slate goes dusty grey, and limestone flattens out. A deep clean pulls the buildup, and a color enhancing seal brings back the browns, golds, and greys of the stone you actually picked. A clear seal is available if you would rather keep the current look.
More on travertine: Travertine Cleaning & Sealing.
Glendale's water is hard, and it leaves mineral rings around sinks, on shower walls, and anywhere a sprinkler head reaches a stone patio. Travertine is porous, so it pulls that mineral in instead of letting it sit on top. Backyard pool decks add sun, chlorine, and splash for most of the year, and monsoon dust settles into every pit and pore after each storm.
Older slate entries have their own story. Many were sealed once when the house was built and never again, so decades of traffic have ground soil into the cleft surface and turned it the same flat grey from wall to wall.
If your Glendale home has stone indoors and a travertine pool deck out back, we schedule both for the same visit on a single quote.

Usually a lot, and right away. Cleaning lifts the mineral and storm dust out of the pores, and a color enhancing seal deepens faded color. Tired travertine and old slate show the biggest change.
No. An etch is stone that acid has eaten away, and fixing it is refinishing work we do not do. We still clean and seal the rest and point out which spots will stay.
Every one to three years for most indoor stone. Showers, kitchens, patios in sprinkler range, and pool decks in full sun need it toward the shorter end.
Yes, travertine pool decks and cool deck both, cleaned and then sealed clear or color enhancing. The deck can go on the same visit as your interior stone.
Yes. Marble and every other stone get pH-neutral products only, and no acid ever comes near them.
Not at this time. We clean the stone, tile, and grout around it. For hard water on the glass, we suggest Bio-Clean Hard Water Stain Remover, which is acid-free and will not harm nearby stone or grout. Test a small area first, especially on coated glass.
We cannot promise a lifespan in a shower. Some keep their seal for years and some lose it fast, and a short life does not mean the work was poor. Daily water, soap, calcium, ventilation, and moisture behind the tile are beyond our control. Running the fan and squeegeeing help it last.
Check a chip or a pit. Real travertine has natural holes and the same color all the way through, while a porcelain look-alike has a printed top layer over a plain body. We confirm it on site before any product goes down.
