Different types of natural stone react differently to cleaning products and sealers, and using the wrong product on the wrong stone can cause etching, discoloration, or other damage that is difficult to reverse. That is why we evaluate your stone's type and condition before recommending an approach, rather than applying the same product to every surface.
We will walk you through the sealing options that make sense for your stone and your goals, whether that is simple protection, a richer color enhanced finish, or adding grout color seal to any package, and we will not push a higher tier sealer if a basic clean and clear seal is all your stone actually needs.
We use pH-neutral, stone-safe products. No acidic cleaners on natural stone, ever. Acid etches marble, travertine, and limestone on contact, and that damage does not undo.
This is the part people remember. Travertine, slate, and limestone fade over time, going chalky, pale, and flat as sun, hard water, and traffic wear at the surface. Color enhancing sealer soaks into the stone and brings the depth back. Browns and golds get richer, and slate goes from dusty gray back to its real color. It protects the stone at the same time, so the result lasts.
Even clear sealing makes a visible difference once the dirt and mineral are out. Clean stone with a fresh seal simply looks the way stone is supposed to look.
Etching, the dull spots where something acidic like wine, citrus, or the wrong cleaner ate into the stone, is surface damage that takes honing and polishing, and we do not do refinishing. Everything around it still comes out cleaner, richer, and protected, and we will point out any etching before we start.
Appointment length depends on the square footage being cleaned and which sealing options you select, with sealing add-ons naturally taking longer than a cleaning-only service. Sealed areas typically need some time to cure before heavy foot traffic resumes.

We clean and seal travertine, marble, limestone, slate, and other natural stone flooring. Grout color seal can be added to any package, with over 40 color options if you want to restore your grout's original color or change it entirely.
Travertine and flagstone patios, stone walkways, and cool deck around a pool take a different beating than interior stone. Chlorine, constant wet-dry cycling, calcium from splash-out, and full sun all work on the surface at once.
Sealing a pool deck does more than it does indoors, since there is nothing protecting that stone from the sun and the water otherwise.
Arizona's hard water and desert dust are tough on natural stone specifically, since stone is more porous than tile and absorbs mineral deposits and staining more readily. Unsealed stone is especially vulnerable, and even sealed stone needs periodic resealing as the protective layer wears down over time from foot traffic and cleaning.
Every stone identified before anything touches it.
We take our time. No job gets rushed to make room for the next one.
Every job Pfaff Cleaning Co. has taken on has been handled by our own team. We’re at a 5.0 on Google.
Choosing the right company for natural stone matters, since the wrong product or process can cause damage that is expensive or impossible to fully undo. We focus on stone specific cleaning and sealing rather than treating every hard surface the same way.
We take the time to evaluate your stone's type and condition before recommending a package, and we will never push a higher tier sealer your stone does not need.
Locally owned, serving Chandler, Gilbert, Scottsdale, Mesa, Queen Creek, Tempe, Ahwatukee, Sun Lakes, Paradise Valley, Phoenix, Apache Junction, San Tan Valley, Maricopa, Goodyear, Peoria, Glendale, Surprise, Fountain Hills, and Cave Creek, plus commercial work across the Phoenix metro.
Natural stone sealing, travertine cleaning and travertine floor cleaning, marble and limestone stone care, slate sealing, and hard water stain removal on stone showers, floors, and entries.
Stone is porous. Sealing is what keeps Arizona hard water, cooking oil, and everyday spills from soaking into the surface instead of sitting on top of it. We clean first and seal second, because sealing over soil locks the soil in permanently.
Hard water deposit on stone is where most of the damage gets done, and it is almost always done by whoever is trying to remove it. A razor blade moves bonded calcium fast and scratches the stone doing it. An acidic cleaner takes the deposit off and etches travertine, marble, and limestone on contact.
We use neither. We work deposit with products matched to the stone and real dwell time, we get what is gettable, and where buildup has bonded in we tell you that rather than trading your stone for a faster result.
We clean and seal marble. We do not polish it. Restoring a dull or etched marble floor means working through diamond abrasives to hone and then re-polish the surface, and that is a different trade with a different machine. We would rather tell you that than learn on your floor.
We do not replace, repair, or remove stone or tile. If a piece is cracked or loose, we tell you before we start, since that is a stone or tile contractor job.
Here is how to tell which problem you have. Soil sits on top and comes off, and the floor looks better wet. An etch mark is a dull spot where something acidic touched the stone, and it stays dull when everything around it shines. General dullness across a whole floor is usually worn finish rather than dirt.
Cleaning and sealing fixes the first one and protects against the next one. It does not fix an etch mark or a worn finish, and anyone telling you a cleaning will bring the shine back on etched marble is selling you something. We will look at it and tell you which you have before you spend money on either of us.
Stone that has faded, or slate and travertine that went flat years ago, usually comes back further with a color enhancing sealer than with a clear one. It deepens the natural color that is already in the stone rather than adding a color to it, and on slate in particular the difference is not subtle.
We show you both before you decide. We seal a small test area with each, you look at them side by side in your own light, and you pick. Plenty of people come in wanting the clear seal and change their mind standing over the test patch, and plenty of others prefer the clear. Either way it is your call with the stone in front of you rather than a decision made off a description.
Clear seal protects. Color enhancing protects and brings the color back. Same job, same visit, different look.

Yes, on request: sofas, chairs, tables, and the pieces that sit on the floor we are cleaning. We do not move beds, bed frames, very heavy pieces like oversized sectionals, pianos, and appliances, or anything with breakables on it or inside it, including lamps, mirrors, TVs, and china or curio cabinets. We clean right up to and around anything that stays put.
We identify your stone type during inspection and choose products suited to that specific material.
A clear sealer protects the stone without significantly changing its appearance, while a color enhancing sealer deepens the stone's natural color for a richer, more saturated finish. Both provide protection against staining, but the color enhancing option is a bigger visual change to the surface.
Yes. Showers, wet areas, and backsplashes vary a lot by size, condition, and stone type, so send a photo with the button below and we'll give you a rough range. If you're adding grout color seal, we come out to go through color options before booking. One thing to know upfront: shower color seal is not guaranteed. Showers are the hardest surface we seal, and a small number fail early because of moisture or old sealer already behind the tile. Most hold up for years, and sealing runs a few hundred dollars against several thousand to retile, so most people would rather try it knowing the odds.
This depends on the sealer type and how much foot traffic the area gets, but many homeowners reseal every one to two years to maintain protection. If water no longer beads on the surface, that's usually a sign the seal has worn down.
It depends on the type of stain, how long it's been set, and whether the stone has etched or permanently discolored. Many stains lift significantly with professional cleaning, though some deeply set stains may only improve rather than fully disappear.
Yes, noticeably. Faded travertine and slate are where people see the biggest change.
No. We don't do stone refinishing. Cleaning and sealing will make the floor look considerably better overall, but etch marks will still be there afterward.
Yes, once cleaning and any sealing product has fully cured, the surface is safe for households with pets and kids. We'll let you know the recommended wait time based on the products used.
Yes, sealing over dirt or grime traps buildup underneath instead of protecting a clean surface, so cleaning always comes first in our process. This is why cleaning and sealing are offered as separate tiers rather than sealing alone.
Yes, our grout color sealing add-on offers over 40 color options, so you're not limited to just restoring your existing grout color. This is a popular option for homeowners looking to refresh the look of their floors without replacing the tile or stone itself.
Cleaning starts at $1.27 a square foot online, or $1.50 regular, and sealing packages start at $2.50. The total depends on square footage, the sealing tier you choose, and whether you add grout color seal. A $300 minimum applies to tile or stone floor work booked on its own.
Yes, we offer grout repair for cracked or missing grout lines. We evaluate the damage during inspection and let you know what to expect before any work begins.
Not at this time. We clean and repair the tile, stone, and grout around it. For hard water on shower glass, we suggest Bio-Clean Hard Water Stain Remover. It is non-acidic, so it will not etch the stone and grout around your glass the way most acid-based removers can. Test a small corner first, especially if your glass has a protective coating.
We do not guarantee how long it lasts in a shower. Some hold up for years and some fail quickly, and a short life does not mean the work was done wrong. Showers take water, soap, and calcium every day, and things like ventilation, the cleaners used, and moisture behind the tile are out of our control. Running the exhaust fan during and after showers and squeegeeing the walls help it last.
