The work happens in the grout joints, so the price follows how much joint you have. A standard 12x12 tile sits near the bottom. A 6x18 plank or a mosaic carries roughly twice the grout line per foot, so those get priced from a photo. Furniture moving is covered too, and a house that needs a lot of it lands higher in the range. The top of the range is the ceiling unless the job changes on site and you approve the change.

Names get mixed up here. Grout recoloring, grout staining, grout color restoration, grout renewal, and grout color sealing all describe this service: a pigmented sealer worked into a cleaned joint by hand, so the line ends up one color and sealed at once. Grout sealing or grout protection usually means a clear coat, a cheaper job that slows new stains but cannot hide old ones.

The first week matters most. You can walk on it the same day, but it keeps curing for 7 days. For that week, socks or house shoes only, no street shoes, and no mopping. A dry dust mop or broom is fine. After that, live normally and wipe up spills as they happen. Flooding the floor or scrubbing the joints hard wears the seal through early.
Keep steam mops off it. Heat and moisture driven into the joint break the bond faster than anything else. We use a neutral pH cleaner, Zep, with an H2O Pro flat mop and clean pads. A string mop just pushes dirty water back into the grout.
It is not paint, and it does not cover the tile, which stays exactly as it is. It also does not fix broken grout. Cracked or missing joints need grout repair before any color goes down. On showers we will color seal, but without a guarantee.
Newer homes in Marley Park, Surprise Farms, and Asante were mostly finished with light builder grout across the kitchen, entry, and great room. With that much tile, the grout takes in every spill and every bit of dust blowing in from the fields west of town. Color sealing ends the routine of cleaning it back to nearly right every year.
